Global Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Profile 2017

The document provides key facts and figures about IOM's Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) operations on a global scale. The information was collected through the second annual DTM survey, which covered 56 countries with active operations in the one year period between July 2016 and June 2017.

In December 2017, DTM is active in a total of 49 countries and used by IOM and partners to track the displacement and needs of over 15 million persons. In the past year IOM used a network of 4,368 data collectors and 262 staff.

The global relevance of DTM in the quantification of internal displacement was documented by IDMC in the 2017 "Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID)". The DTM profile now shared with you includes an extract from page 76 of the IDMC report, dedicated to the work of IOM. The vast majority of conflict-related displacement data was either directly collected by IOM or supported by IOM. The proportion is much lower for displacement caused by natural disasters, where national authorities are the main providers of displacement data. The full IDMC report can be downloaded here.
