IOM Budapest continues to address the needs of stranded migrants

Hungary - IOM Budapest continues to address the needs of stranded migrants in Röszke and Tompa as part of the "Migration crisis in Europe - Support to stranded migrants in Greece and Hungary" project funded by SlovakAid. Due to the upcoming harsh weather conditions, providing warm items, such as sleeping bags, pullovers, hats and footwear to migrants has proven to be crucial. Thus IOM Budapest staff have distributed the following items to migrants waiting to enter the Hungarian transit zones:

  • 250 warm hats
  • 500 pieces of underwear
  • 100 t-shirts
  • 300 pullovers
  • more than 200 trousers
  • 200 raincoats
  • 150 pairs of shoes
  • ca. 500 pairs of wellington boots
  • almost 500 hygiene kits
  • more than 400 sleeping bags and pads
  • and 150 towels.

IOM Budapest continues to be present at the Hungarian-Serbian borders to monitor trends and identify needs of authorities and stranded migrants.
