IOM Budapest took part in IOM’s Global Migration Film Festival by screening the movie “On the Same Boat”, which explores the human faces of the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean, telling the personal stories behind the news articles. The film guides us through many young migrants' heartbreaking decision to leave home, their treacherous and uncertain journeys and their arrival in Italy. The viewer also gets a peek into the communities these migrants have built for themselves as they question the nature of belonging, safety and freedom.

The film screening was followed by a panel discussion, where experts from different organizations discussed the migration challenges of today and the possible policy recommendations. The discussions were followed by a Q&A, where participants also had the opportunity to pose their questions to the panelists.

The screening was co-organized with the help of the International Diplomatic Student Association, the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) in Vienna and AIESEC Hungary. The screening took place at the Corvinus University of Budapest.

About the Global Migration Film Festival: The IOM - UN Migration launched the Global Migration Film Festival in 2016. The Film Festival features films and documentaries that capture the promise and challenges of migration, and the unique contributions that migrants make to their new communities. The goal of the festival is to pave the way for greater discussion around one of the greatest phenomenon of our time.
